Welcome

Thank you for stopping by to learn more about me and my campaign. I hope the information here helps tell you more about who I am and the kind of experience and perspective I can bring to our school district.

Early on in the pandemic, I spent a lot of time wondering when things would get back to "normal". And I eventually realized that normal would be different for all of us going forward. We have to react quickly and aggressive to help our students recover their unfinished learning. However, we have to do that within a framework that acknowledges that "normal" no longer exists for so, so many of us the way that it did in 2019.

And I became really interested in this idea. How can we re-imagine our school's future under this new normal? How can we ensure that it meets the needs of all of our students?

I strongly believe that we are in a pivotal moment and we are not going to get a transformational opportunity like this again any time soon. I want to help our district move forward - with urgency, and with innovation, with creativity and by re-thinking what we used to do. Let's use the opportunity to re-imagine how our schools work best. I'm excited to get to work.

On March 9, the Mount Horeb High School Current Affairs class organized, hosted, and ran a candidate forum for all 6 candidates. The students did a great job preparing thoughtful questions - check it out!

Questions were as follows (along with the time marks for my responses):

  1. Why did you decide to run for school board and what is your vision for the district? (4:40)

  2. What makes you a better choice then other candidates running for school board? (16:30)

  3. Besides covid and Mental Health, what is the biggest problem facing the school district? (44:14)

  4. What will be your approach to obtaining student feedback? (54:30)

  5. How has the school district handled the county masking requirements? (1:00:48)

  6. Has there been enough transparency between the school board and the community if not how would you improve it? (1:08:46)

  7. Do you think only two options, French and Spanish, are enough foreign language opportunities for the students? Along with that, what should be the role of the district in providing a skilled workforce for local businesses? (1:21:34)

  8. What are your opinions about local businesses being able to pay for naming rights in the district as a way to bring in added funding? (1:36:50)

  9. Why doesn't school start later for the high school since teenagers wake up later than adults? (1:54:50)
